Mr. Nihal Jayawardene PC

Mr. Nihal Jayawardene joined the Attorney General’s Department in July 1984. He was awarded the Master’s Degree in Public International Law by University College London in the in the year 1991 and was enrolled as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales. He served as a member and later leader of the Team of Legal Consultants to the Public Enterprises Reform Commission from 1996 until his retirement from Public Service in May 2005.

Mr. Jayawardene carries vast experience in the field of Aviation Law.  He was appointed to the Board of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka in the year 2004 until 2013. In recognition of the contribution he made to the legal profession as an eminent counsel in aviation law, public law, corporate and commercial law, he was appointed a President’s Counsel in the year 2012. He was a member of the Company Law Advisory Commission from August 1998 to 2008 where he served as the Secretary to a Sub Committee tasked with looking into the areas of Company Law that needed Improvement and thereafter as the Research Coordinator of the Reforms Project. He has been serving the Academic Staff of the Sri Lanka Law College as a Senior Lecturer and an Examiner of Commercial Law from the year 1997 and also was a Lecturer in Corporate Law at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies of the Council of Legal Education of Sri Lanka.

He has served as a Director of Hotel Developers (Lanka) Ltd, the owning company of Colombo Hilton Hotel from 2004 to 2015, was a Director of Milco (Private) Limited, Sri Lanka Libya Agricultural and Livestock Co. Ltd., Peoples Leasing Company PLC and Director and Founder Chairman of Lanka Sathosa Limited.
