Dr. Panduka Mahendra Wijeyaratne
Dr. Panduka Wijeyaratne holds a PhD, from the University of Texas, School of Public Health, Houston Texas, U.S.A., an MSc from University of Florida, U.S.A., a BSc. (Honors) from the University of Ceylon, Colombo, Sri Lanka. His technical expertise and experience is in the sphere of program and project development and management in tropical diseases, community and environmental health and humanitarian assistance.
Dr. Wijeyaratne has held key positions over the span of his career. He is the Founding Chairman and currently a Program Director of Tropical & Environmental Disease and Health Associates (TEDHA), a health consulting company in Sri Lanka and President for the fourth term of the Association of Former International Civil Servants (AFICS Sri Lanka). He has held positions as the Program Director, Tropical Disease Prevention, USAID/EHP, Director, Tropical Disease and Environmental Health, International Science & Technology Institute (ISTI) Washington DC, U.S.A and Senior Associate International Science & Technology Institute Inc. (ISTI), Arlington, U.S.A., Chief of Party and Resident Adviser, USAID/ Environmental Health Project (EHP) Nepal and ISTI, Arlington, U.S.A., the Principal Program Officer, Health & Environment Program, Health Sciences Division, International Development Research Center (IDRC), Canada, as well as on the Board of Directors of PATH-Canada. Dr. Wijeyaratne was the Principal Lecturer, in the Faculty of Medicine, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, while also having the distinction of serving as a Consultant to the Nigerian Ministry of Health as well as the Ministry of Labour in Sri Lanka.
Dr. Wijeyaratne has served on committees and panels as co-Chairman and member of the World Health Organization (WHO) and organizations affiliated to the United Nations in varying capacities, contributing his expertise here in Sri Lanka, as well as across numerous South East Asian and African countries. He has authored and co-authored many research and scientific articles that are published in scientific journals and publications worldwide.
